Edwardian historic building with lovely views of the city, harbour and peninsula, a short walk from the main street and city centre. Rooms are peaceful and spacious with unlimited, fibre optic WIFI. Alcohol restricted to the bottom floor in our pool table lounge and dining room. There is a sheltered but sunny courtyard with herb garden. The upstairs lounge is beautifully sunny and filled with books and games. Being a former hospital, most rooms have taps and sinks and there are plenty of bathroom facilities.
All linen is included, all rooms have heaters and are lockable. The building has a door code lock for 24 hour access and CC camera security in common areas. Complimentary tea and coffee in our large well-equipped kitchen.

Wonderful staff. Richard was an Angel. My wife and I both plan to return.

This hostel was average, but I likely wouldn't choose to stay here again. The location is up a massive hill from the Octagon. Only a 10 min walk, but less than ideal late in the evening in the cold. Lots of long term backpackers here, and they act like squatters and have claimed the outlets/tables/etc for their personal use. The rooms don't have security lockers of any kind. It looks a cute little inn that is 40 years old and hasn't been updated. The main staff member who runs it was super friendly and nice

The bathrooms weren’t that clean and smelled *really* bad at all times. Kitchen wasn’t maintained well (trash always full, the sponges were honestly gross).
The common areas were nice to chill in when there was space. Staff was friendly.
Overall I probably wouldn’t return here.
