Disappointing. Pros: Great kitchen and smart design/structure. Cons: staff tried to change the price when I arrived even though everything was booked and confirmed through Hostelworld and in general they were not very friendly- not a great welcome. The 36 bed dorm is not well ventilated so it was steaming hot, even though the air outside with cool and fresh at night.

You simply can’t beat the location, just steps from the malecón in the heart of PV! The reviews about no hot water are false- but the heating controls may be unfamiliar so just ask the super friendly staff if you’re confused. The crappy mattresses were all replaced with new AMAZING mattresses during my stay. The breakfast is DIY and totally solid, goes until noon! Norma the housekeeper is fantastic! Only criticism is one shower for men and one for women- in high season this could be a problem.

Great place! Almost empty when I stayed so I’m not sure what it’s like full of people but i loved it. Very clean, nice beds, great terrace and reading lounge. Friendly staff and decent breakfast.

Great owner/manager, perfect location. Atmosphere was a little sterile but I think it’s still relatively new- everything seemed brand new... ultra comfy beds. Awesome kitchen if you want to cook for yourself. San Cristobal is a chilly town and this hostel just needs some warming up- excellent potential and still a great value.

Lockers far from cabins and far fewer lockers than guests. Tiny cabins with two 3 deck bunk beds, no room to move around or put your stuff- 1 shared outlet for 6 people. No wifi anywhere on the premises. Located at the entrance to the natl park so excellent location if you’re just coming for 1 night to see the ruins but that’s it. Across street is a great restaurant and what looks to be much better lodging. I moved into the town and stayed 4 extra nights bc the town is wonderful and charming.

I got here soon after it opened so I think that explains the incredible rate- it was one of the cheapest places around but way nicer than any other hostel in town by far. Everything brand new with awesome pod-style curtained dorm beds, gorgeous rooftop pool and bar, breakfast AND dinner included... this place is a luxury, world class hostel. I think the current prices have gone up a lot but for anything less than ~$40USD a night this place would still be a great value bc of the super facilities

Small lock boxes for valuables, not for backpacks. Really friendly staff but someone accidentally locked the bathroom in the middle of the night and the staff weren’t able to resolve it until after 10am and didn’t offer alternative shower in the meantime- frustrating. Also breakfast doesn’t include any beverage at all and the cup of coffee is almost the same price as a full local (non-tourist) meal, so that felt kind of like a scam.

This is a hotel with a dorm room. It’s clean and comfortable, very nice beds and a great price but no common area apart from the reception and no lockers in the dorm (there is a luggage room to leave your bags if you need). The included breakfast was excellent and the location is walkable to everything downtown and along the malecón.

Incredible view over the jungle, just spectacular! The manger/owner’s brother(??) was amazingly helpful and friendly but some of the other staff seemed annoyed to be working and unhelpful- for example not providing blankets when the temperature dropped below 5C during a record cold snap, and not offering use of one of the heated showers that morning (hot water is in private rooms only?). Apart from the one crabby staff member the place was excellent but he really brought it down.

Had a private room- super cheap(!) so not sure about security in the dorms. Cool vibe and really friendly helpful staff.

Overall everything was great here but one serious critique is that a couple of times a staff member was smoking cigarettes in the kitchen while cooking. Not cool. Otherwise totally great place, great staff and excellent location.

Private room was great, just like staying in a budget hotel. Low season so very few guests. Friendly and attentive staff. Advertised beer, wine and cocktails at the bar but only beer was available. Breakfast was nice, pancakes cooked to order, bananas, coffee/tea.

The low mark for security is because I had food eaten from the fridge and so did the Danish couple I spoke with after we all stayed there just one night. The hostel was nice with a good pool and plenty of space to relax but from our very limited experience (Friday night), it seemed like the party crew came home at 2am and ate everything they could find in the kitchen. Otherwise, totally unremarkable experience- Recommend :)

Edgar was so helpful and friendly!! The hostel was overall great. Free coffee all day! A bit of a walk from the downtown area but very close to the big Savannah Park if you like going for a jog--> super convenient. I was there during low season and it was wonderful having lots of empty beds and easy use of the kitchen. Hot water showers were touchy like so many tropical climates (electric shower heaters) but keep in mind, it can be a bit chilly in San Jose due to elevation.

No lockers in the dorm and no space for your bag(s). Location is not ideal but would be WAY better if there were any sign or indicator, instructions, address, or anything at all to indicate this hostel. For all future guests, please be aware this is the place with a grey sliding gate across the front, flanked by two lions. Just ring the bell. The staff were lovely, dorm fine, kitchen well-equipped. If you are a seasoned backpacker this is a great value (provided it remains $6.50/night).

Really nice atmosphere and excellent/attentive staff. They helped me with several "random" needs- including receiving a lost package, which involved several phone calls to and from Cartagena- all with a smile. Really excellent staff. Make sure you find the hostel on a map if you're going to arrive without cell signal, it's hidden in a little alley.

I love this place. Found it by accident my first time in Guatape and ended up staying 3 extra days because it is amazing. I justcame back with two more friends two months later to show them this gem as well! Private lake access directly down the hill from the porch to a dock with Kayaks available. Unparalleled views of the rock, lake and surrounding landscape. Wonderful staff and great atmosphere with breakfast (3 choices) included all at a hostel price. One of my favorite places on Earth!

Nice place- pretty standard dorm rooms with large lockers available. Friendly helpful staff and nice breakfast. Not a ton of atmosphere but they share facilities with the Pinta Hostel a couple blocks away with a bit more character energy. I had some trouble with the hot water (luke warm or boiling and hard to control) in both the showers I tried during my stay but this has been a theme in Colombia. Overall solid place, and I would return!

Wonderful gem of a place in charming Salento. Great location because you can get on/off the bus less than a block away and you are just a few blocks away from the main square. Owner is very helpful and friendly guy who is also the chef of the on-site restaurant serving delicious London-style Indian curries. Great coffee all day/nice atmosphere. The showers are amazing and kind of hilarious- like futuristic stand-up tanning bed spaceships. But most importantly w/ good pressure and hot water!

Had a private room don't know about dorm security. Great location for exploring Granada but if you only have a couple days, maybe better to stay in San Antonio. Good staff- I agree with previous commenters about the personalized DIY breakfast baskets- nice touch! My only complaint is that I specifically booked this for a nice hot shower and it was so hard to control the water temperature that my only options were to be scalded or have cold shower. I tried 3 different bathrooms throughout my stay
Hi !! thanks a lot for your comment, we changed the heater system some months ago for a new one and it looks like the setting was too high!. Thanks for mentioning it so we can improve the comfort in our hostel ! Always happy to have you back someday !

Really great staff! Well-equipped kitchen, nice little patio in the back and very reasonable price for self-service laundry. Nothing too spectacular about the layout/atmosphere but plenty of common space to sit and relax outside the bedrooms. Only critique is although the location in Cali is excellenty, the actual street is not so great and there's no sign or marker of any kind indicating the hostel from the outside so it can be confusing to find. Overall, I highly recommend!

Great courtyard/lounge area with clean small pool for cooling off. One of the best breakfasts I've had at a hostel. Downside is the location is a bit out of the center but public bus is really cheap and easy. Overall great value.

Excellent location, great staff, beautiful space- architecturally and in the way it's been retrofitted for a hostel and the design choices. Only con is no pool which is a lifesaver in Cartagena but a top notch hostel in all other respects (good breakfast too)!

Overall a great hostel. Had a private room with shared bathroom and I think they should have one more bathroom for the number of guests sharing. Nice rooftop terrace where you can enjoy a lovely simple fresh breakfast included in the room price but I couldn't get any wifi up there (my friend was able to). Recommend!

Great place- nice happy hour Caipirinha deal! Decent atmosphere although I don't think there is any terrace or outdoor space which would be really nice. Friendly helpful staff and nice location although the immediate vicinity around the hostel felt a little bit dangerous at night... I just stayed one night to catch an early flight in the morning so didn't get to try the breakfast. Recommend!

Overall no complaints- stayed in private room the first night on top of the kitchen- very cute and nice only complaint is the bathroom for that room is also kind of the main lobby/kitchen bathroom. Second night stayed in a typical dorm. There was a BBQ the second night which was a really fun experience ($10 per person including wine). I left my jacket in the storage and the staff were kind enough to help coordinate a hand off in Buenos Aires from one of the other guests- Thanks for that!

Wonderful hostel with great amenities in an excellent location! We had a great time here during our 3 days in Mendoza. The hostel itself is clean, with great common areas, a large very functional kitchen and a wonderful backyard with clean and fresh pool. On Sunday night Juan Carlos prepared a delicious family asado for ~$11 USD/person. Only critique was that the front door remained locked at all times (no problem) but sometimes the front desk attendant wasn't nearby to open it right away...

Short walk to the backpacker nightlife strip so good location if you're looking for that. Nice friendly staff and I loved the rooftop kitchen/terrace. Lots of great places to eat nearby. If I remember correctly I had to go down a few floors to use the bathroom but thats the only negative I think. Overall great place and well-priced. Recommend!

Charming quiet hostel in a great location with very relaxed vibe. Great for someone who would like to sleep in a peaceful quiet hostel, rather than an every day party.

Considering it's one of the cheapest hostels in Kho Tao, it's an fantastic value. No frills (unless you Count a very pleasant outdoor pool table/ cafe patio) but solid in all the important ways (clean rooms and beds, reasonable AC, friendly helpful staff, nice vibe). Definitely a young party crowd- I felt too old to be there but that's my own problem.

Overall good value. Great rooftop view but would be nice to have some drinks/snacks available to buy up there. Friendly staff although there often wasn't anyone at the desk. The location was not ideal since you have to cross the river to get to Avignon.
